Who was King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev (Mahendra of Nepal)?

King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev (श्री ५ महाराजाधिराज महेन्द्र वीर विक्रम शाह देव) was Rular of Nepal from 13 March 1955 until his death in 1972, which was caused by a cardiac arrest, according to an interview with his personal physician.

They were received by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in the capital, Washington D.C. After Washington, King Mahendra went on twelve-day coast-to-coast tour of the United States. He went to New York, Tennessee, Salem and Eugene in Oregon, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Albuquerque in New Mexico, Dallas in Texas, Miami, and Detroit in Michigan. While at Los Angeles, California, The King and Queen decided to visit Paramount Studios (On 11 May, 1960).

Paramount Pictures is one of the oldest film studios in the world. Founded in 1912, the Paramount studios in LA have been a production site for thousands of movies and TV shows.

King Mahendra of Nepal and Queen Ratna of Nepal started by visiting the set of Shirley MacLaine’s Movie “All in a Night’s Work”, inside the Paramount Studios. After that they moved on to the set of the movie, “G.I. Blues” where the great Elvis Presley was filming a scene. As The King and The Queen arrived on the set, Elvis came down from the stage to greet them. Then they had some nice chat. King Mahendra admired Elvis for his music and films. (Elvis had already done 4 movies by then).
